The 200+ foot Hidden
Falls is a roaring, turbulent cascade sandwiched between the walls of a deep
canyon. You could hike down into the canyon but we recommend you take the
Jenny Lake boat trip ($5 per adult) and enjoy the scenery as a bonus while
getting to the trailhead.
We were told,
"Don't take the stairs - follow the trail." Yes, there is a well
worn trail branching off to the left of the neat wooden steps. You cross
several bridges (you don't even have to get your feet wet on this one!) and
finally reach a trail that climbs up to a vantage point that, from where you
are at the moment, seems like the top of canyon. When you finally get up
there you see that there is still much more climbing - if you really wish
to. We didn't even though we were told by some people (on the way down) that
view was much better up there.
If you visit in the
early summer while the snow is still melting, you will be greeted by a sound
almost as loud as a missile launch at Cape Canaveral. This was 30 bucks (2
adults) well spent and now you don't even have to pay to get into
Yellowstone!
How to get there:
In Western Wyoming,
nearly all roads lead to Grand Teton National Park - which is just south of
Yellowstone National Park. The $20 NPS entry fee for either Yellowstone or
Grand Teton admits you to BOTH parks. Many people see the Grand Tetons as
they drive by on the way to Yellowstone never realizing what they are
missing.
