There are three,
officially named, waterfalls in Crater Lake National Park: Annie Falls, Duwee Falls
and Vidae Falls. Only Vidae Falls can be seen relatively close-up from the
road. The highest fall in the Park, Vidae Falls is actually a cascade,
tumbling about 100 feet down the rock debris from Vidae Cliff. Never a great
flow of water, the waterfall is usually reduced to a shadow of its former self
by August.
How to get there:
If you are continuing
on our tour along Hwy 138 (the 'Rogue-Umpqua Scenic
Byway'), you eventually enter Crater Lake National Park via the North Entrance
road (closed in the Winter). When you reach
Crater Rim Drive (which encircles Crater Lake) continue on southward to the
official Visitors' Center. This is past the turnoff (on your left) to Rim
Village.
We suggest you stop in at the visitors'
center if you are interested in the rest of the Park. To get to Vidae Falls,
continue on the Rim Drive about 3 miles past the Visitors' Center to the
marked turnout and parking area.
If entering via the Southern Entrance
Road, turn right on the Crater Rim Drive. When you pay your entrance fee you
will get excellent guidance.
