Blue River
Blue River Public Hunting and Fishing Area
(Tishomingo OK)

Near Tishomingo (which is about 30 miles east of Ardmore and I-35) there is a stretch of the Blue River populated with a series of some 50 granite ledges; 6 of them create waterfalls that are 6 feet or better and another 2 are reportedly 8 and 12 feet. The Blue River, though nearly flat for 40 miles, collects water from over 200 square miles of watershed. Then, on its way to join the Red River, it drops off a granite plateau in a series of cascades and falls for a 14 mile stretch.

Most of this stretch of the Blue River is in the state-designated Blue River Public Hunting and Fishing Area. At the entrance to this protected area is Scotty's Blue River One Stop, a family owned business has been in business for over ten years catering to to folks who love and enjoy the outdoors. We recommend that you stop in and get the needed information about where to see the waterfalls and how to find them in the Blue River Public Hunting and Fishing Area. Please note that the properties along the Blue River, above and below the Blue River Public Hunting and Fishing Area, are privately owned and posted. Penalties for trespassing, for any reason, can be severe in Oklahoma. For more information phone Scotty McCarthick at 580-371-9288, or, e-mail Scotty at

At 3rd Street in the middle of Ravia, OK-1/OK-12 go north following 3rd Street. You want to continue straight ahead on OK-22 passing through Tishomingo. As you depart Tishomingo you'll note that the highway is also designated as OK-78. (OK-22 will be turning of in a few moments) Continue on OK-78 to Bullard Chapel Road (about 3 miles from Tishomingo). Turn left on Bullard Chapel Road and drive north 5 miles to Scotty's Blue River One Stop.

From US-69/75 in Durant:

Using the westside bypass freeway, take the OK-78 exit at the north end of town and head north for a little over 2 miles where OK-78 turns off to the left. Follow OK-78, through Cobb, Brown, Nida and Emet to Milburn. At 'F' Street in the center of Milburn, OK-78 turns left heading out the west side of town. Follow it to Bullard Chapel Road (about 5 miles from Milburn). Turn right on Bullard Chapel Road and drive north 5 miles to Scotty's Blue River One Stop.

From Indian Nations Turnpike (or US-69/75):

Take US-70 west through Durant to the US-69 freeway on the west side of town. Get on the northbound onramp and follow the freeway a little over 3 miles to the OK-78 exit. Many, if not most, people who have never been to Oklahoma think of this state as a land of rolling hills and miles and miles of corn. When you see the Blue River Blue River Public Hunting and Fishing Area you'll think you are no longer in Oklahoma; but you are! We have found only one photo of the Blue River including one of the smaller waterfalls.
