Elk Falls
(Elk Falls KS)

"World's largest living ghost town... in the heart of the Kansas Ozarks" is the claim of the hamlet of Elk Falls. And here, "in the middle of nowhere", is what most would consider an aberration for Kansas: a tree-lined creek with a real waterfall.

Admittedly, most tourists come to Elk Falls (the hamlet) to view "the world's largest, living ghost town", a bustling community of 299 in 1930, but less than 100 today. So, come see their beautiful waterfall and enjoy their 'ghost town', too.

How to get there:

From Independence:

Drive west on US-160, through Elk City to Elk Falls (about 34 miles). The waterfall is east of town but it would be best to ask one of the friendly residents for specific directions.

From I-35:

Take exit 19 and drive eastbound on US-160, following its twists and turns, to Elk Falls (about 73 miles). The waterfall is east of town but it would be best to ask one of the friendly residents for specific directions.
