The Snake River plunges over a horseshoe rim a thousand feet wide. They claim that the spray creates its own weather. 

Shoshone Falls produces hydroelectric power for Idaho Power Company. Water is also diverted for agricultural purposes but, early in the spring (or anytime in a wet year) visitors can see the landmark just as was before all this 'development' began. By July, however, about all you'll see is one very dry cliff. In-between times the waterfalls are separated by rock out-cropings creating three or four individual waterfalls. But, as long as there is water, there is an excellent and rewarding sight.

There is a parking fee at the park ($3 in 2002). There is a viewpoint on the rim of the canyon - outside the gate - so you can peek to see if the view is worth $3

.

How to get there:

From downtown Twin Falls:

• Drive north on Blue Lakes Blvd (US-93) to Falls Avenue.
• Turn right (east) and follow Falls Avenue to Champlin Road (there is a Shoshone Falls sign) (about 3 miles).
• Turn left (north) and follow Champlin Rd to Shoshone Falls Park (about 2 miles).

From north of Twin Falls on US-93:

• From the Perrine Memorial Bridge over the Snake River, drive 1.7 miles toward downtown Twin Falls to Falls Avenue (4000 North).
• Turn left (east) and follow Falls Avenue to Champlin Road (there is a Shoshone Falls sign) (about 3 miles).
• Turn left (north) and follow Champlin Rd to Shoshone Falls Park (about 2 miles).
