Here is a great
waterfall just an easy, one mile walk from the parking area. Dawn Falls drops
some 30 feet into Larkspur Creek Canyon, a cool touch of paradise just over
the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco.
While the hike from
the small parking area is short (just over one mile each way) part of it is
rather steep. We consider it easy to moderate. If you enjoy a little
recreational walking, there are many trails in the Preserve of varying
challenge - and - other waterfalls.
We found an excellent
map (in .pdf format) of the Preserve and strongly recommend you print it out
and bring it with you. You'll find it at:
How to get there:
We used a long,
involved 'guide' to find our way there. It worked but we were rather hesitant
because the verbiage contained in the guide made it seem that the trails were
very confusing with many misleading junctions. After we visited the falls and
did the research for this piece we came across a great web site called the Bay
Area Hiker
produced and maintained by Jane Huber. Within it are great description of the
trails and very clear directions. View this page at:
